How trophies motivate kids to do their chores

Stars and rewards go a long way toward getting kids to do their chores, but sometimes it helps to have something more long-term to work toward. A reward that's just been redeemed leaves a little dip — what do you aim for now? Trophies fill that gap.
1. Four different ways to be a hero
Kids can earn a trophy for four different things: how many chores they've completed in total, how many days in a row they've got everything done, how many stars they've collected, and how many rewards they've redeemed. That means a kid who loves long streaks and a kid who'd rather collect points both get something of their own to aim for — the system rewards different ways of being motivated, not just one.
2. A little celebration right when it happens
As soon as a threshold is reached, confetti and a short celebration animation appear right on the screen — no waiting until the next day, no reload needed. It's the same kind of small, immediate feedback that makes you want to keep going: the result of the effort arrives straight away, while the feeling of having done something good is still there.
3. Hand-drawn trophies, not just an emoji
Cup, medal or star — each trophy is custom-designed art in real bronze, silver and gold tones, not a generic emoji. It's dimmed until it's unlocked, then it lights up in colour. The collection actually looking like a collection makes it worth flipping through and showing off.
4. You decide how much it takes
Think gold should require more, or less, than the default? The thresholds can be adjusted in the admin panel, so they fit your own family's routine and your kids' ages. A younger child might need shorter gaps between levels for it to feel reachable; an older child can handle it taking a while.
5. Trophies don't replace rewards — they complement them
The rewards you decide together are still the core: concrete things the kid wants, tied to stars. Trophies sit on top, as a free extra layer ticking along in the background. The kid doesn't have to choose — they collect stars toward a reward and unlock trophies along the way.

Do the trophies cost anything? No. Trophies are completely free and appear automatically under the Routines tab as soon as kids start checking off their chores.
Does the parent have to hand out trophies manually? No, they unlock automatically when a kid reaches a threshold. The only thing you can set is how high the thresholds should be.
Do trophies work for older kids, or is it too childish? The streak and collection mechanics — days in a row, levels to unlock — are the same as in games and apps older kids already use. Turn the thresholds up so gold actually means something.
